We asked MA Fashion graduate Helen Bullock to draw three CSM labels that showed at London Fashion Week like ‘one of her French girls‘ (minus the dramatic Titanic ending). So, she set out to illustrate those she’s shared intimate MA studio space with (and the many secrets kept hidden between those walls): Leutton Postle, Marques’Almeida and Phoebe English. Helen chose all of them for their difference in character – both in terms of the designers themselves and the girl they design for. “The looks I chose to illustrate will have spoken to me in some way – through their colours, their detail, or sometimes their simplicity.”
“Leutton Postle‘s work always comes with high spirit – I thought the Blackpool Pleasure Beach was a perfect backdrop for their presentation. I loved the graphic nature of some of their surfaces, combined with the chaos of the appliques.”
“Marques’Almeidaoffer this amazing sense of nostalgia with a majorly new twist. The colours in this collection drove me wild, as did the furs! It’s all so… easy, yet at the same time so rich.”
“Whenever I draw Phoebe English’s collections, I feel an ethereal quality and inner strength… VERY Phoebe. She presents beautifully composed pieces – always with amazing fabric combinations, and strong lines.”
