The Rubric manifesto is clear, “The financial pressures and racial disparities that exist within an industry with a high barrier to entry need to be addressed.” By working with leading fashion figures such as Adesuwa Aighewi, Agata Belcen, Alexander Fury, Briana Capozzi, Charlie Casely-Hayford, Emma-Hope Allwood, Emma Wyman, Hanna Moon, Isabella Burley, Olivia Singer, Julia Sarr-Jamois, Katie Grand, Raven Smith, Virgin Abloh, and many more, the Rubric Initiative’s first step is to share the knowledge of how the industry is run from shoot production to assisting a fashion stylist, putting forward lesser-known roles in image-making.
“Education is key: we want to ensure that everyone enters the industry on even footing, understanding what each potential job entails and how to do it best, as well as how to recognise and stand against unacceptable behavior.” -Rubric Initiative.
The project is separated into three categories:
- Digital Resources: Youtube video panels, Youtube conversations focusing on the practical side of the industry, Group Zoom seminars, and podcast interview series.
- Mentorship and workshops: 6-month, 1-to-1 mentorship programmes in collaboration with Mentoring Matters as well as additional opportunities such as writing workshops and seminars.
- Financial Support: Supporting living-wage paid internships and apprenticeships as well as offering studio space and equipment for Rubric student access.
