Five minutes with… Lynski

Do you ever look at someone whose work you admire and think, “how did they get to where they are?” We do this all the time, so we thought we should just ask them. The first person we wanted to sit down with was make-up artist Lynski. Hailing from Latvia, she moved to London in 2017 to pursue her career in make-up, now boasting a portfolio that ranges from Re-Edition covers to the runways of London’s coolest young labels.

What do you wish you knew when you were just starting out in the industry?

Rejection is not always personal, say yes before you feel ready and that nobody remembers your failures as much as you do.

Who or what are you most grateful for?

I am forever grateful to the first people I worked with back in Latvia. Lera and Julia, two photographers who took a chance on me when I didn’t even have a portfolio and hyped me up after. This was truly life changing. Also Fenty Mattifying Powder – that shit is incred.

What was the moment you decided to make what you love into a career?

For me it was not love at first sight and my passion developed as my understanding of the job grew. There was no epiphany under a spotlight, I just tried and then tried again – and then I was deep in it. To this day even when it’s so quiet that I want to quit makeup and open a chai latte shop, I remember that I am doing what I am actually obsessed with and it is such a #blessing.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I would like to keep doing this in one form or another, while hopefully feeling content with my life. I do have some boring strategic plans, but I guess as long as I am happy and healthy and passionate about what I do, it’s all good with me.
